A total of 20 of Argentina's 24 provinces are under alert due to a heat wave shaking the center and north of the South American country, a phenomenon for which the Ministry of Health recommended that the population hydrate themselves, avoid physical activity and exposure to the sun, among other actions.

According to what was published by the official news agency, Télam, the ministry said that “much of the center and north of the country is experiencing a sustained rise in temperatures this Tuesday”, which “will remain very high throughout the week”.

For its part, the National Weather Service (SMN) issued red, orange and yellow alerts for this reason in 20 provinces, including Mendoza (west), a district that could face the “longest heat wave in its history” and that ran out of electricity this Tuesday due to high household demand.

This Tuesday, more than half of the Argentine territory recorded temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius, according to the SMN, the state agency that placed the city of Las Lomitas, in the province of Formosa, as the one that withstood the most suffocating climate, with 39.4 degrees at 13:00 local time (16:00 GMT).
