Last Thursday, teacher unions in Argentina began a national strike to demand the reopening of parity unions in order to negotiate a wage increase and the reinstatement of the National Teacher Incentive Fund (FONID), which was eliminated in early March by the government of Javier Milei.

Initial, intermediate and university education unions called for a general strike because despite government promises, university education funding remains indefinite, Telesur said.

The secretary of the CONADU organization, Federico Montero, stated that “it must be said that the conflict is far from being determined, Argentina's central budgetary problem, which is the salary of teachers and non-teachers in national universities, remains to be solved.”

Since Javier Milei took office as president of the country in December 2023, teachers have not stopped protesting, as evidenced by the events in Misiones and other provinces, where force measures have been carried out for several days.
