Last Thursday, teaching and non-teaching workers from 57 public universities in Argentina began a national strike against the budget cuts of the Government of Javier Milei.

“Since Miley became president, we have suffered 70 percent inflation, while our salaries only rose 16 percent,” said Daniel Ricci, Secretary General of the Federation of University Teachers (Fedun).

This strike was supported by the country's main labor unions, the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) and the two branches of the Confederation of Workers of Argentina (CTA).

The University of Buenos Aires (UBA) stood out among the centers where the strike took place. This is the higher education institution with the most students in the country and one of the most prestigious in Latin America.
