The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, has again launched verbal attacks against the president of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, after the results of the first round of elections in the Latin American country were announced, as reported by the multistate channel Telesur.
Through his digital platforms, the Argentine ruler issued messages in an offensive tone against the progressive president, asking that “impoverished left-handed people” step aside to “shine the continent”. This reaction came in support of the extreme right candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, with whom he maintains an open political alliance.
For his part, the Liberal Party candidate responded to the support expressed from Buenos Aires, assuring that “very soon our nations will be closer”, anticipating an ideological alignment in the region if he prevails in the ballot. The Argentine president's meddling in Brazilian domestic politics had already generated previous diplomatic friction between the two nations.
According to the Brazilian electoral authorities, the Head of State will be defined on October 25 in a second round. Faced with this scenario, President Lula da Silva expressed his confidence in the will of the sovereign people and ratified his commitment to defend democracy in the decisive contest.
