This Thursday, the far-right president of Argentina, Javier Milei, attacked higher education and vetoed a law aimed at increasing funding for public universities.
The excuse given by the neoliberal president Milei, to validate his position, is that the increase supposedly affects public finances.
This regulation had been previously approved by the Argentine Congress and seeks to update monetary funds for expenditures in public universities. In this sense, the legislation sought to improve the salaries of educational personnel in the face of the inflation that the nation is going through.
The veto executed by Javier Milei comes after a protest in Buenos Aires, in which teachers and students united to demand the approval of this law that seeks to promote higher education.
