This Wednesday, the judges of the Chamber of Cassation in Argentina ratified the conviction against former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner for the cause known as Vialidad, a decision that sentences her to six years in prison and proscribes her politically.

Judges Mariano Borinsky, Gustavo Hornos and Diego Barroetaveña had already told right-wing media that they would confirm the ruling, which seeks to bring Cristina Fernández to prison and disqualify her from holding public office for life.

The defense must appeal to the Supreme Court the decision of Borinsky, Hornos and Barroetaveña, members of Chamber IV of the highest federal criminal court in the South American country, so it cannot be arrested or disqualified until that instance is ruled.

According to the ruling read by Hornos, she was sentenced “to a sentence of 6 years in prison and special perpetual disqualification from holding public office, legal accessories and the costs of the proceedings for considering her to be criminally responsible for the crime of fraudulent administration to the detriment of the public administration”.
