Regarding the anniversary of the start of the Falklands War, the former president of Argentina, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner questioned the position of the current president Javier Milei for “handing over” the cause to foreign interests.
Fernández shared a statement issued by the Secretariat of Defense of the Jurist Party on the 42nd anniversary of the Malvina War, in which he accuses the Milei government of dismantling State policy on the Malvinas through overideologization to prioritize party agendas over the defense of sovereignty.
Likewise, defunding, due to budget cuts that weaken military and logistical capabilities in the southern region and through diplomatic malpractice, due to the lack of a clear strategy in the face of the accelerating dispute over control of the South Atlantic and Antarctic projection.
In turn, the statement also warns of the global context of “critical conflict”, where powers such as the United Kingdom are intensifying their interest in strategic resources in the South Atlantic and Antarctic.
According to the Jurist Party, Milei's decision to “rescind consolidated sovereign policies over several successive governments puts the country's territorial integrity at risk,” the text adds.
Fernández warns that “the policy of aligning the Milei government with foreign powers is having especially harmful consequences for the Malvinas question, for Argentina's position in Antarctica and for the preservation of Argentine interests in the sea.”
