The mayor of the Sucre municipality of Aragua state, Wilson Coy, declared a State of Emergency in the jurisdiction after the heavy rains recorded this Monday, September 28, which affected different sectors and caused trees to fall on roads and power lines.
“We are going to declare a state of emergency after the fall of approximately 17 gigantic trees and the heavy rains,” Coy announced during a balance sheet provided by the jurisdiction, reviewed by AVN.
The Mayor reported that rainfall reached approximately 100 millimeters of water per square meter every hour, for a period of about two and a half hours, in different parts of the municipality in Cagua and Bella Vista.
The rains and strong winds caused numerous trees to fall, including two in the vicinity of the José María Vargas hospital and others in sectors such as Santa Rosalía, Tamborito, Campo Alegre and La Toreña.
Coy noted that two circuits were affected after trees fell and that CORPOELEC teams were deployed to restore service, with priority attention to the circuit that supplies energy to the José María Vargas hospital.
The local president indicated that the City Hall, Fire, Civil Protection and emergency care teams remained deployed in various parts of the municipality to clear roads and deal with the damage.
Coy specified that the damage recorded up to that time was material and was mainly related to fallen trees and damage to the power line.
He added that pruning work will be carried out to reduce risks on the lines during the rainy season.
