The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, urged the international community to “build a base for sustainable peace in Gaza and throughout the Middle East,” he said during a conference in Cairo aimed at increasing humanitarian aid.

The military campaign launched in retaliation by Israel has left 44,429 people dead in Gaza, according to figures from the Ministry of Health of the territory that the UN considers reliable.

“The catastrophe in Gaza is nothing other than the total collapse of our humanity. The nightmare has to end, we can't keep looking the other way,” read Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General of the UN.

He also added that “irreversible progress towards the two-state solution, in line with international law and relevant UN resolutions, with Israel and Palestine living in peace and security and with Jerusalem as the capital of both States.”
