Various migrant groups, anti-racist organizations and cultural resistance groups mobilized this Monday, October 12, through the streets of Madrid, Spain, to demand a critical review of European colonial history and demand full respect for the social rights of the migrated population, Telesur explained.
The demonstration started from the Parque de las Lavanderas in the Acacias neighborhood, along important road arteries such as the Ronda de Valencia and the Atocha area, until it culminated in Plaza Juan Goytisolo, where acts of cultural reaffirmation were held.
Under the slogan “Rebellion and healing, against centuries of oppression”, the demonstrators denounced the persistence of neocolonial structures in European foreign policies and reaffirmed the need to dismantle the official narrative that covers up the historical impact of the conquest on the peoples of the Global South.
The day of protest concluded with political interventions and traditional dance and music exhibitions, consolidating a space for community articulation between the various identities that live in the Spanish territory and fight against institutional discrimination.
