The president of the National Association of Supermarkets and Self-Services (ANSA), Ítalo Atencio, reported this Tuesday that 93 supermarkets opened in Venezuela during 2026, generating 870,000 direct, indirect and administrative jobs across the country.
In an interview with Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), Atencio ranked the food sector among the activities with the greatest productive impact within the national economy.
He noted that the increase in supply responds to a coordinated effort between domestic producers and the national executive, which reduced undernourishment rates and expanded the options available on the shelves.
“This circle involves a greater number of brands: 46 brands of corn flour, 50 of rice, 43 of pasta, 20 of mayonnaise, 10 of margarine, 25 of tomato sauce and, of course, more supermarkets. This reflects an increase in per capita consumption of several products,” he said.
