The second discussion and definitive approval of the Bill for the Decent and Responsible Treatment of Companion Animals represents an immediate desire for members of animal organizations in Venezuela, including the president of the Nevado Mission, Maigualida Vargas; who announced her desire that this regulation be enacted as soon as possible.

Previously, this Bill was approved in the first discussion, in a process that later included public discussions. “In our country, we have made great progress, especially in the way in which we perceive animals in our community, in our family,” Vargas reaffirmed during an interview with Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).

“Our society has evolved, it has become very sensitive to animals, and State programs have grown,” he said.

In addition, it favored the adoption of dogs over purchase, since for the marketing of such pets, females are exploited during their reproductive periods, which leads to a negative impact on their health. “Adoption contributes to population control by giving a home to animals in street situations,” he said.

Once again, he reiterated the Nevado Mission's commitment to animal welfare, and recalled that the mission's objective is to facilitate working-class access to medical services for their pets. He explained that the services they offer include veterinary care, vaccination, nail cutting, consultation and deworming.
