The National Assembly (AN) will hold a special session this Sunday, March 17, to commemorate the bicentenary of the appointment of El Libertador Simón Bolívar as a Mexican citizen.

This was reported by the president of the Legislative Branch, Deputy Jorge Rodríguez (PSUV/Dtto. Capital), after the end of this Thursday's regular session.

It should be noted that the historic event, when Mexican citizenship was granted to Bolívar, occurred on March 17, 1824, at the initiative of the Constituent Congress of Mexico, to recognize his struggle for the Independence of America from the Spanish Empire.

Bolívar received Mexican citizenship through the approval of the proposal of the deputy of the Congress of the United Mexican States, Fray Servando Teresa de Mier, who proposed that El Libertador should be recognized for his libertarian feat as a citizen of all the republics of America, starting with the Mexican republic.
