The National Assembly (AN) approved, this Thursday, the dismissal of Juan Carlos Delpino from office as rector of the National Electoral Council (CNE) and also instructed the Public Ministry to open a criminal investigation against him.

The parliament's decision was taken after the former rector left office on July 28 and became part of the far-right campaign to sing fraud and ignore the results of the presidential election.

During the debate, the President of the Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, denounced that as part of the plan being carried out by the extreme right to ignore the electoral results, Delpino was given the mission of delaying the issuance of the first bulletin and of going to a television channel to sing fraud.

“The thing is that fear is free and he squirmed, scared and that's why he hid,” he said.

He also reported that the fugitive from Venezuelan justice, Rafael Ramírez, was the one who paid Delpino to commit the crimes against the Homeland that he committed. “That is why one of the requests I have come to make is that we only determine political responsibility, but that we also ask the Public Ministry to apply all laws to prosecute traitors to the country and corrupt,” he said.

On the other hand, Rodríguez stressed the importance of making changes to the country's electoral laws to include in them the new forms of aggression to which our country has been subjected after 28-J.

“What are we going to do with a sector of Venezuelan politics that always calls for violence when defeated. It cannot be that in 2013, 2017, 2019 and 2024 they are the same people doing the same things,” he said, while stressing that the country's electoral laws do not have enough force, so reform is urgently needed.
