During the regular session of the National Assembly (AN), this Tuesday, October 29, the Draft Agreement was approved to commemorate the 59th Anniversary of the bloody assassination of the political leader, distinguished fighter and militant of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV), Alberto Lovera.

The presentation of the text was given by the deputy Rodolfo Sanz, who stated that “this Agreement reflects a dark historical period in Venezuela and constitutes, perhaps, the most monstrous crime committed during the fourth Puntofijist Republic in this country”.

He emphasized that in the Government of Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez, and in the current Government of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, there have been no disappearances for political crimes or acts of State violence.

“This has been a humanist revolution, which has respected human rights and when the State has acted it has done so in legitimate defense of national interests, peace and stability of the country,” he said.

The Agreement highlights the importance of commemorating and condemning the abhorrent murder of the union leader, who suffered at the hands of repression, political persecution and injustices perpetrated by the government and security forces of the Fourth Republic.

In addition, tribute was paid to the memory of Alberto Lovera, considering him a model of struggle and resistance in the defense and guarantee of the rights of the country's workers, as well as in the search for the development of a just, equitable, sovereign, free and independent society.

Alberto Lovera was born on August 8, 1923, in Nueva Esparta. He was a left-wing Venezuelan political leader and labor union leader, member of the Political Bureau and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV), in addition to being Secretary General of the Regional Committee of the PCV-Federal District and First Secretary of the Political-Military Committee of the PCV.

On October 17, 1965, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Alberto Lovera was arrested in front of the Plaza de Las Tres Gracias by Digepol officials, and transferred to that police facility in Los Chaguaramos, where he was seen by other prisoners.

Some of them would later declare that Lovera's car, a blue Mercedes Benz, was parked in the repressive body's parking lot.

After he is kidnapped, they begin to torture him for nine consecutive days, until he is murdered.

On October 27, 1965, his body appeared submerged in the waters surrounding Lecherías beach, in Puerto La Cruz, Anzoátegui state. It had a chain tied to it, from which a weight hung to keep it submerged; however, the body fell into the nets of an oriental fisherman.

Alberto Lovera's body had his face and hands completely destroyed, to avoid being identified through his features, dental studies or through his fingerprints. However, the forensic medicine, after analyzing the spoils in detail, managed to determine that they belonged to the political leader.
