AN appoints new rector of the National Electoral Council

This Tuesday, the National Assembly (AN) of Venezuela appointed Conrado Pérez Briceño as the new chief rector of the National Electoral Council (CNE), replacing Juan Carlos Delpino, who was dismissed.

Pérez's appointment is established in article 12 of the Organic Law of Electoral Power, which allows the AN to appoint a rector in the absolute absence of one of the members of the CNE.

For her part, Aura Rosa Hernández Moreno will serve as alternate rector.

In addition, the National Parliament also requested the Public Ministry (MP) to immediately initiate a criminal investigation against the former rector, Delpino.
