The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), during an interview for the CBS television program 60 Minutes, addressed the relationship with the United States (USA) and assured that “we are an independent, free and sovereign country, we are not a colony, we are not a protectorate of any foreign country”,

“We have a good relationship, but not one of subordination,” added the Mexican president, who also emphasized the migration crisis, as it has reached record numbers in the last three years since, in 2023, Border Patrol agents arrested nearly 3.2 million undocumented foreigners across the country, compared to 2.7 million in 2022.

AMLO accused that members of the North American government, “instead of seeking dialogue, reaching agreements and addressing causes, point to our country and say that “it is Mexico's fault, Mexico originates the migration problem.”

He also criticized the position of the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, who has promoted anti-immigrant policies, such as the SB4 law. “He goes to the Rio Bravo and puts up fences and does a show, that's opportunism, with all due respect, that's politics, it's not serious,” he accused.
