  • A 13-year-old student, who was studying fifth grade at a school in Lídice, was shot to death by a Municipal Police officer.
  • The event originated at 1 in the afternoon outside block 57 of Lídice, where seven minors were playing, including a girl named Francis Reyes.
  • Several agents descended from a patrol. The boys, seeing that they were police officers, quickly ran to take refuge in their homes.
  • When the boy Ali Antonio Castrellón won out of the alley, an agent emerged who, without giving him a loud voice and without trying to stop him, used his regulation weapon and shot the minor at chest height.
  • The neighbors took him to the Salas Emergency Hospital, but he arrived without vital signs as a victim of a 38-caliber bullet.

CONTEXT:

  • The boy Ali Antonio Castrellón was assassinated at gunpoint during the fourth year of the government of Rómulo Betancourt. Five years in which the practice of opening fire without giving a loud voice, without attempting a prior arrest and without questioning the persons subject to these police raids was implemented.
  • Betancourt ruled in violation of the Constitution and the Laws. It de facto abolished the principle of Good Faith (Bona Fide), so anyone was considered a “suspect” and outlaw, or a mobile target of police repression.
  • Protected by the doctrine of anti-communist paranoia, Betancourt built his own cemetery in Venezuela to ensure that the interests of Nelson Rockefeller and the Creole bourgeoisie could exercise their hegemony within the framework of “Pax Americana”.
