On May 26, 2005, Alfonso “Chico” Carrasquel, a former Venezuelan major league, died, who left his mark on the world of professional baseball.

Carrasquel, better known as the ghost of 35th Street, began to love this sport at the age of 11, but followed in the footsteps of his uncle Alejandro in professional baseball in 1946 with the Cervecerías Caracas team, where he became the rookie of the year.

2 years later, although he signed his first contract in the United States with the Brooklyn Dodgers, he was unable to debut, he became a member of the Forth Worth team in the Texas League.

He was the first Latin American to participate in an all-star game because of his valuable performance with the Chicago White Sox, a team that debuted on April 18, 1950.

Carrasquel was born on January 23, 1928. This honorable player played more than 250 games a year, including Major League Baseball, Venezuelan Baseball and Caribbean Series.
