On January 23, 1928, Alfonso “Chico” Carrasquel, a former Venezuelan grandeliga, was born, who left his mark on the world of professional baseball.

Carrasquel, known as the “ghost of 35th Street”, began to love this sport at age 11, but followed in the footsteps of his uncle Alejandro in professional baseball in 1946 with the Cervecerías Caracas team; where he became the rookie of the year.

Two years later, although he signed his first contract in the United States with the Brooklyn Dodgers, he was unable to debut, he became a member of the Forth Worth team in the Texas League.

He was the first Latin American to participate in an all-star game because of his valuable performance with the Chicago White Sox, a team that debuted on April 18, 1950.

This honorable player, who died on May 26, 2005, played more than 250 games a year, between Major League Baseball, Venezuelan baseball and Caribbean Series.
