Alberto Fujimori, former president of Peru during the period from 1990 to 2000, will once again run for president in the general elections of 2026.

This is how his daughter Keiko Fujimori, leader of the Popular Force party, announced through the social network X:

“My father and I have talked and decided together that he will be the presidential candidate,” he said.

Despite his poor state of health, Fujimori, 85, has decided to apply again. During his term of office, he is remembered for his neoliberal approach to economic policies and his authoritarian style of government.

In 2009, he was taken to prison for massacres committed by army death squads in 1991 and 1992. Sentence he served for 25 years.
