Faced with the worrying situation currently going through in the Republic of Haiti, the member States of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) issued a statement to express their concern and solidarity following the resignation, on March 11, of the Prime Minister of that nation, Ariel Henry.

In this regard, the Alliance formed by Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Dominica and Saint Lucia, believes that the complex situation of violence in Haiti “deserves immediate attention and international help for the population, with their well-being and development being the main reasons for any action that is planned to take today”.

In addition, the regional bloc reaffirmed that “interventionism has historically been the door of failure that hinders any possibility of developing the social and economic welfare of the Haitian people and urges us not to repeat the mistakes of the past.”

The member States of ALBA-TCP reiterated that it is through mechanisms of effective cooperation and solidarity, as well as respect for the sovereignty and self-determination of the Haitian people that “we can help this nation overcome the difficult situation it is going through.”
