After the XII Extraordinary Meeting of the Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America — Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), the group released a statement defending migrants in the region and advocating respect for their fundamental rights.
An ALBA-TCP statement quoted by Telesur, detailed that the leaders and prime ministers meeting at the meeting express their “strongest respect for the dignity of migrants, regardless of nationality, culture, race or gender, and we demand that their fundamental rights be guaranteed.”
In this regard, they demand compliance with deportation protocols in a safe and orderly manner, in clear rejection of the mistreatment that has been committed in recent days against migrant compatriots by U.S. immigration authorities.
The heads of state rejected the criminalization of migration and demanded the lifting of obstacles to the free flow of migrants' remittances to their countries of origin, since it constitutes a violation of the rights of these people and only causes harm to their families.
