The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), through an official statement, welcomed the second round of elections held in Uruguay, which won the Broad Front candidate, Yamandú Orsi.
Below is the full text of the statement:
The member states of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) applaud the holding of the second round of elections in the Eastern Republic of Uruguay in which the candidate of the Broad Front, Yamandú Orsi, was elected as the new constitutional President of the Republic, this Sunday, November 24, 2024.
The member countries of ALBA-TCP recognize the democratic spirit of the Uruguayan people for a victory that, in turn, expresses a significant defeat of neoliberal policies and anti-popular positions. In addition, the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance congratulate President-elect Yamandú Orsi and his political platform, the Broad Front, while wishing them every success in their future administration to wisely redirect Uruguay to the path of progress and social welfare.
The Bolivarian Alliance celebrates the sovereign victory of the Uruguayan people, convinced that President Orsi will be able to resume the urgent path of Latin American and Caribbean unity, to which the governments of the Broad Front contributed so much in their previous efforts. As José Gervasio Artigas, the most renowned Uruguayan hero, said:
“The cause of the peoples does not admit the slightest delay.”
