On December 10, 2001, Commander Hugo Chávez, during the Aló Presidente program number 219, signed the Land and Agrarian Development Act with the objective of deepening the fight against large estates and highlighting the work of peasants in the national productive apparatus.
“The Land and Agrarian Development Act manages a new concept of latifundium, which is no longer based on the number of hectares but on the productivity of the land,” said Commander Chávez.
This law is part of the 49 legal instruments enacted via Enabling by Commander Chávez as National Executive at that time, a decision that the Venezuelan opposition and oligarchy did not welcome and tried to overthrow the Bolivarian Government.
With the application of this legal instrument, he recovered millions of hectares seized by the Venezuelan oligarchy.
