Act for the Decent Treatment of Animals establishes a single record

During the working tables on the Bill for the Decent and Responsible Treatment of Companion Animals, which met this Thursday, it was agreed to incorporate an article on the single registry.

This was reported by the president of the Social Protection Subcommittee of the Missions and Great Missions System, deputy Yurami Quintero (PSUV/National), who explained that the working groups considered that this Single Registry of Companion Animals should also register those who are in street situations, abandoned and community animals.

He stressed that, at the request of those consulted, the project establishes a National Guiding System for the Protection of Companion Animals and all those registered, which will be made up of representatives of different State institutions, organizations, foundations and social movements, who must develop programs and plans that guarantee the protection of these living beings. He added that the law will be ready, for its second discussion, in 15 days.

The deputy specified that one of the people's main requests has to do with the establishment of exemplary sanctions for those who attack these animals; and that is how it was left in the text as one of its chapters.

He said that progress has been made in the development of this chapter, in which several proposals have been made regarding minor, serious, very serious administrative sanctions and criminal sanctions for animal abuse. In the latter case, he said, convictions for omission are contemplated, where the lives of these living beings are put at risk.
