Academia Puerto Cabello made its debut with victory in the Copa Libertadores, beating Uruguayan Defensor Sporting 3-2 in the first leg.

The goals for the Buenos Aires team were scored by Antonio Romero (1), Miku Fedor (26) and Michael Covea (88) while the visitors discounted Facundo Bernal in the 24th minute and Octavio Rivero in the 67th minute.

Venezuelan strategist Noel Sanvicente's team will have to adjust its defense when it comes to Uruguay on February 13 to complete the qualification for the next round of the oldest club tournament in the Americas.

The orange and blue team will have to win or tie to guarantee their classification and if they lose by a goal they would go to penalty kicks since the visiting goal does not weigh for the purpose of the series tiebreaker. The winner of this bracket will play against Nacional in the next qualifying round of the Cup.

Alignments:

Puerto Cabello: Schiavone; Silva, Rivero, Moreno, Cobos; Bravo, Congo, Celis; Rojas, Romero and Fedor.

Sporting defender: Dawson; Rodriguez, Alfonso Barco, De Los Santos, Viacava; Bernal, Valiente, Elizari, Álvarez; Agazzi and Rivero.
