The Minister of Popular Power for Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, reported that the Bolivarian Agency for Space Activities (ABAE) is processing high-resolution geospatial information to assess the geological and structural damage caused by the earthquakes of last June 24.
This technological deployment, disseminated through its official Telegram channel, is part of the immediate scientific actions instructed by the National Executive to address the contingency in the affected areas.
The holder of the scientific portfolio explained that, within the framework of Activation 1036 of the International Charter “Space and Major Disasters”, Venezuelan specialists have processed more than 1,400 satellite images and generated more than 100 cartographic products.
These cutting-edge international technical tools make it possible to accurately model the geographical impact of the natural event, speeding up the diagnosis of the most vulnerable sectors and infrastructures.
Using optical images, satellite radar and the INSAR technique, the team of researchers analyzes in detail the deformations of the terrain, the effects on key structures and the conditions of the country's main communication routes.
All this data of aerospace origin is continuously complemented by rigorous technical checks directly in the field, consolidating a robust information system to strengthen risk management and optimize institutional decision-making.
Minister Jiménez stressed that space science and technology continue to provide timely solutions for emergency care, reaffirming the commitment of the Bolivarian Government, under the leadership of the president in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, to place high-level scientific knowledge at the service of life, structural security and the integral well-being of the entire Venezuelan people.
