An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 occurred this Saturday, March 29, at 9:20 (GMT) in Myanmar, 19 kilometers from the city of Naypyidó, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

The earthquake was 10 kilometers deep, the Russia Today website reported.

This Friday, the 28th, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in Myanmar, leaving at least 1,002 dead and more than 2,376 injured, according to the authorities' balance sheet.

At least 250 people died on Friday from the earthquake that hit Burma only in the 50 mosques that collapsed in the country's capital, Naypido; and in the regions of Mandalay and Sagaing, as reported this Saturday, the 29th, by the Islamic Council of Burma, which predicts that the balance will continue to increase.

“We haven't been able to remove the debris yet. There aren't enough rescuers. We can only estimate the number of people who are buried in houses and mosques. We can't get them out of the collapsed buildings,” said a Council spokesman in telephone statements collected by the news portal Myanmar Now.

For its part, the International Committee of the Red Cross warned this Saturday that the situation in Burma is critical 24 hours after the earthquake that has already left more than a thousand dead across the country, an estimate that will increase as the hours go by.

“After 24 hours, parts of Sagaing, Mandalay and Naipidó continue to be the most affected areas,” said the head of the ICRC delegation in Burma, Arnaud de Baecque, in a statement published on his account of the social network X.
