A new earthquake of magnitude 6.9 occurred this Friday, October 9 at 3:25 p.m. local time in Panama, according to preliminary reports issued by the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama.

The seismic movement had its epicenter located 32 kilometers northeast of the island of Coiba, in the maritime area of the Panamanian Pacific, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The institution's geological monitoring stations continuously tracked telluric activity in the region to pinpoint the extent of the fluctuations in the Earth's crust.

The technical body continues to monitor the Pacific basin and analyze the readings to determine if the phenomenon corresponds to a replica of the events previously recorded in the national territory.
