(The Impulse, April 6 and 21, 1965)

  • During the Long and Final Operation, ordered by Raúl Leoni in the states of Lara, Portuguesa, Trujillo and Barinas, José Antonio Aguilar “Chera” was arrested in El Tocuyo, on April 4, 1965, accused of being a collaborator of the guerrillas.
  • From there he was transferred to several hamlets and villages in the Edo. Lara, to provide information about possible “contacts”.
  • After being “routed” through that area, agents of the General Directorate of Police (DIGEPOL) and “hunting” military personnel, not obtaining data or reports from Aguilar, proceeded to torture, shoot and disappear him.
  • This disappearance is due to the whistleblower Antonio José Guédez Pérez “Daniel”, a former guerrilla fighter who had surrendered to the army on January 15 of that year.
  • Since then, he has been acting under the orders of his immediate boss, Lieutenant Colonel Bernardo Antonio Rigores, Commander of the TO-3, of El Tocuyo.
  • That same day, they were shot outside their house, in the presence of their families and neighbors, by DIGEPOL agents, the brothers Edilio, Tito and José Rojas, accused of being part of the insurgent groups operating in the sector.
