By presidential decree published in Official Gazette No. 27,530, 59 years ago, the Mucuchi breed is recognized in the national territory and in some international bodies as the native dog breed of Venezuela.
During his fight for the country's independence, the Liberator Simon Bolivar adopted a dog of this breed, called Nevado, which gradually became popular and expanded its population, to the point where on August 31, 1964, the Mucuchí breed was declared the typical national breed, thus becoming official as a symbol of the Venezuelan affirmative.
