A total of 5,418 communes and communal circuits will participate this Sunday, October 18, in the 8th National Popular Consultation, in which the inhabitants will decide by vote which community projects will be financed, said the Minister of Popular Power for Communes and Social Movements, Ángel Prado.

“First, there was a great debate about the needs of the community, about the difficulties, but there was also planning, a Concrete Agenda for Action and seven projects were prioritized for each commune,” Prado explained during an interview replicated by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN).

The minister specified that the initiatives were not selected unilaterally, but that they will be subject to the decision of the inhabitants. “The majority will make a conscious decision,” he said, referring to the voting process scheduled for this Sunday.

Among the areas prioritized at the national level are access to water, the rehabilitation of schools and health spaces, urban and agricultural roads, as well as the construction and recovery of sports facilities for young people.

Prado highlighted that the proposals respond to the needs identified by the communities themselves, who participated in the discussions and in the planning of the works that they consider to be priorities for their territories.

“It will be a day of democracy for our country, a day where the people express themselves, a community process, these are not conventional elections,” said the minister.
