46 years ago Iran was proclaimed a Republic

On April 1, 1979, the Republic of Iran was proclaimed, after the triumph of the Islamic Revolution.

45 years ago, the Persian people buried more than 2,000 years of monarchy, establishing a democratic political system where Islamic cultural values stand out.

Through a referendum called by the founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini, 98.2% of citizens said yes to democracy and approved a new Constitution.

After the 1979 Revolution, Iran ceased to be a country with a Shah subordinate to the lines of the American governments, to a country that rejects and condemns interference in its internal affairs.
