One person dead and at least two injured, including a five-year-old boy, is the preliminary result of a shooting recorded this Sunday afternoon at a church in Houston, Texas in the United States.

According to the international press, the attacker (a woman of approximately 30 years old) was killed. Police said at a news conference that a woman entered Lakewood Church and started shooting. She was carrying the boy, who was injured with her. In the altercation, a man was hit by bullets.

“Around 1:53 in the afternoon (local time), a woman of about 30-35 years old entered the property through the Lakewood Church parking lot. She entered the building, she was armed with a rifle (...) accompanied by a 4-5 year old boy,” said Houston police chief Troy Finner, quoted by international agencies.

“At a certain point he started shooting and two officers who were out of service (...) got involved and shot the woman. He died on the scene. Unfortunately, the boy was injured and is in critical condition in the hospital. A 57-year-old man was shot and is receiving treatment at the hospital,” he added.

Minutes after the shooting, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said “our hearts go out to those affected by today's tragic shooting and to the entire Houston Lakewood Church community. Places of worship are sacred.”
