On December 15, 1999, the Venezuelan people went to the polls for the first time in their history to decide with their vote the destinies of the Venezuelan Homeland, deciding by an overwhelming majority for the refounding of the Republic under the Bolivarian ideal.
In the midst of adversity caused by a torrent of water that fell on most of the Venezuelan territory, the people took to the streets to resolutely say “Yes” to the Homeland project that was born based on the new Bolivarian Constitution.
“Everything is finished, childbirth has occurred, we have given birth, a new Republic has been born, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has been born,” were the words of Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez after learning the result of the referendum in which 71.8% of the population voted for the approval of the new Magna Carta, which expanded the rights of the majority and resumed the idea of Bolivarian democracy that had been buried by traitors to the libertarian and sovereign project of Father Liberator Simon Bolivar .
24 years after this historic process, the people confirm their decision to continue to deepen their journey towards the Bolivarian ideal to build a democracy that gives all Venezuelans “the greatest amount of happiness possible, the highest amount of social security and the greatest amount of political stability”, as Father Bolivar pointed out.
“Bolivarian Venezuela was born today, the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela was born today. May God keep the new Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela forever and may God keep the brave Venezuelan people forever, eternally.” Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez, December 15, 1999.
