20th Century Russian Art Exhibition in Venezuela opened at the GAN

Through the social network X, the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, highlighted that the exhibition “Russian Art of the Twentieth Century in Venezuela” was inaugurated in the spaces of the National Art Gallery (GAN).

“Today #11Feb inaugurated the exhibition “Russian Art of the Twentieth Century in Venezuela” at the National Art Gallery with works by Russian artists belonging to the @fundacionmuseos collection, together with the ambassador of #Rusia, @EmbSergio. With works by renowned Russian artists. Don't miss it,” Villegas wrote on the social network.

According to information from the Ministry for Culture, the exhibition features 58 artistic expressions by painters: Marc Chagall, Serge Poliakoff, Nicolas Ferdinando and Wassily Kandinsky.

In this regard, the Russian ambassador to Venezuela, Sergey Melik Bagdasarov, highlighted the history experienced between the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation itself, the Revolution of 1917, the participation of that country in World War II, among other events.

“This exhibition is very interesting because it highlights in one of its themes the history of the 20th century of Russia, which experienced a lot of turbulence at various events, such as the arrival of World War I, the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 and the recollectivization of the Soviet Union. Then, World War II came and we called it the Great Patriotic War, all this is how the mirror of culture and art showed the mirror of the development of all things in my country, from religion to modern thoughts,” he said.

For his part, Villegas is exhibiting the largest art exhibition in Venezuela about Russia. “That's why the name of this 20th Century Russian Art Exhibition in Venezuela, which are works owned by Venezuela by Russian artists of the 20th century,” he explained.

In addition, he recalled that his portfolio carried out several acts of repatriation of works to other nations that did not arrive in the right way to Venezuela. He indicated that a number of expressions were recently returned to Costa Rica and a similar event is expected with Egypt, following the visit made to that African country last week.

He pointed out that if it were necessary to transfer a Russian work that forms part of Venezuelan property, he would be willing to hand them over by carrying out the necessary procedures. Those on display are legally in the possession of the Venezuelan State.
