1982: Commander Chávez swore to defend the Homeland against Samán de Güere

On December 17, 1982, the Eternal Commander, Hugo Chávez Frías, took the Oath of Samán de Güere, out of concern for the situation in the country, which is why he decided to organize the Bolivarian Revolutionary Movement 200.

The oath was taken after the commemorative acts commemorating the death of the Liberator in the Páez de Maracay Barracks, and was based on the oath taken by Simón Bolívar on the Sacred Mount, so he sought to recognize those who were invisible by the power elites, the poor who lived in misery, because of the corrupt governments of the Fourth Republic. This oath constituted a first step in the construction of the Bolivarian Revolution.

The words of the oath:

“I swear by the God of my parents, I swear by my country, I swear by my honor that I will not give peace to my soul or rest to my arm until I see broken the chains that oppress my people by the will of the powerful. Popular choice, free lands and men, horror of the oligarchy.”
