At least 19 people burned to death early this Tuesday morning after the impact between a double-decker passenger bus and a trailer on the Mazatlan-Culiacán highway, in northwestern Mexico, near La Cruz, in the municipality of Elota, said the prosecutor of the state of Sinaloa, Sara Bruna Quiñónez Estrada.

“So far, according to the expert work that is still being carried out in that area, 19 dead bodies have been counted,” said the head of the Sinaloa State Attorney General's Office (FGE) through the social network X.

He specified that due to the high degree of “calcination” of the bodies, it will take time “to verify the identification” of the fatalities.

In a subsequent statement, the Government of Sinaloa said that the bus covered the route between Guadalajara and Los Mochis.

Although it does not specify the causes of the accident, according to the local press, the passenger bus was hit hard by a trailer overturned on the race. After the heavy impact, both units began to catch fire.
