June 10, 1813, Simón Bolívar, during the Admirable Campaign, in search of shelter and food, enters the Mononoque Estate, in the state of Mérida, and encounters a dog that attacks him. The Liberator, seeing the animal's courage, asked Don Vicente Pinto, owner of the farm, if he could get him a puppy and he gave him the canine as a gift.

The dog belonged to the Mucuchí breed, because of its white coat with black spots, Bolívar named it Nevado.

Nevado, he was with the Libertador through the passage of the Cordillera de Los Andes and during his military campaigns, on February 3, 1814 in the Battle of La Puerta the canine, together with his caretaker the Indian Tinjacá better known as “The Dog's Edecán”, were captured by Tomás Boves but fortunately they managed to escape a short time later.

On June 24, 1821, in the Battle of Carabobo, Nevado was pierced by a spear. Tinjacá also died in this battle while trying to save the dog. Simón Bolívar approached Tinjacá before he died and he said: “My general, they killed our dog.”

At present, in the town of Mucuchí, in its Plaza Bolívar, there is a monument in honor of the Indian Tinjacá and the snowy dog.
