On January 13, 2012, Commander Hugo Chávez offered his Annual Message to the Nation, with a historic speech that lasted approximately 9 hours 45 minutes, from the National Assembly (AN).

“We are obliged to consolidate in this Latin American and Caribbean land a world of peace, and to give an example to that world of wars and miseries and of violence and of invasions, of how a world in democracy is built in the midst or in the midst of the most high-sounding debates that can arise from our souls, from our spirits of fighters and fighters like us,” said Chávez.

During his speech, he was interrupted by the deputy of the extreme right of the time, María Corina Machado, who described expropriation measures as “stealing”, even though this measure is in the laws and has been applied by all governments in Venezuela.

“You are out of the ranking to debate with me (...) You called me a thief in front of the country. I'm not going to offend her, an eagle doesn't fly!” , the Commander answered masterfully.

The Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution from the AN made many calls for peace and unity.

“This is not the time for guns for us, and I hope it will never be the time for rifles, the time for peace, for politics, for debate, for political confrontation, and for who decides who has to decide, not the guns, the people, the peoples who decide (...) To the same right, analyze well and draw your own conclusions, I only tell them for reflection, businessmen, bankers, the national bourgeoisie, because here we have to guarantee national stability, we have to guarantee national peace”, he insisted.
