On July 27, 2014, Nicolás Maduro was appointed president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

The announcement was announced by the first vice-president of the PSUV, Diosdado Cabello, during the III Congress of the Revolutionary Awning.

“We made the decision by acclamation that Nicolás Maduro be the president of the PSUV,” Cabello said.

For his part, the newly-elected Maduro said he urged a “free and constructive debate, creative and unitary action.”

Today, the National Directorate of the PSUV, together with its president Nicolás Maduro, are holding high the flags of Commander Hugo Chávez's anti-imperialist struggle.
