The Venezuelan
parathlete Clara Fuentes Monasterio won the gold medal in
the Asia-Oceania Open Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand in
the women's category of up to 50 kg.
The current Paralympic and world
champion lifted 120 kg to climb to the top of the
podium, in the first attempt she reached 115 kg, in the second 118 kg in the third 120 kg for a total of 353
kg.
The Venezuelan
was accompanied on the podium by the Azerbaijani Tashpulatova Nasiba with 114 kg and the Chinese Peiqing Xiao with 110 kg, silver and bronze, respectively.
249 athletes, 147 men and 102 women, participate in the
championship. Uzbekistan is the
country with the largest delegation with 37 athletes, followed by India with 29, Kazakhstan
with 28, China 24 and host Thailand 23, as the five most numerous teams.
In addition to Venezuela, the Open Championship also has representatives from El Salvador, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
