The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela began last Saturday, January 6, the transfer to the National Pantheon of the remains of General Domingo Antonio Sifontes, an independence soldier who drove English troops out of Guiana Essequiba. This Tuesday, they arrived at the Mausoleum in Caracas.

Sifontes is recognized for the feat he carried out on January 2, 1895, when he prevented a group of British people under the command of his Police Inspector, Douglas Barnes, from taking control of El Callao, Upata, Tumremo and El Dorado, to Time to raise an English flag to steal precious minerals, Balatá and cattle.

In reaction, Domingo Antonio Sifontes ordered his staff to recover the settlement and succeeded in removing the intruders, depriving Barnes of freedom and transferring him to Ciudad Bolivar. Because of this significant event, he was declared a Hero and Defender of National Sovereignty .

The transfer of the General to the mausoleum of national heroes represents an act of justice for a Venezuelan who loved his country and defended it with his life, emphasized the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.

“Claiming the admission of General Domingo Antonio Sifontes to the National Pantheon means a tribute to a good man who defended the Fatherland above any circumstance, difficulty or pain,” he said.
