The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, commemorated this Sunday the 250th anniversary of the birth of the independence leader Manuel Piar.

Through his account on the social network X, the head of state described this distinguished hero as “one of the great pillars of the independence struggle and hero of the Battle of San Félix; a military strategist recognized by our homeland history as the Liberator of Guiana”.

Piar was born on April 28, 1774 in Willemstad, Curaçao. He stood out for his ferocity, strategic capacity and leadership within the independence forces of the south-east of the then Captaincy General of Venezuela, a stronghold that did not yield to the forces of the Spanish Empire after the fall of the Second Republic.
