New massacre in Colombia claims the life of popular music singer Sebastián Muñoz

Armed men killed four people inside a house in a violent episode recorded in the municipality of Corinto, Cauca, in southwestern Colombia, as reported by the Institute for Development and Peace Studies (INDEPAZ).

Among the victims were renowned popular singer Sebastián Muñoz and his stage partner, DJ and broadcaster James Villegas.

The authorities reported that unknown persons arrived at the scene, in the 20 de Agosto neighborhood and attacked with a firearm. In these actions, a woman was also injured, who was taken to a health center.

INDEPAZ wrote on the social network X that the Office of the Ombudsman issued “AT 031/23 and AT 036/23, in which it warns about the context of violence in the department of Cauca due to the actions of armed groups in the territory.”

The manager of El León de la Canción, as they also said to the singer, regretted the death in a statement.

“With deep pain, the manager and his team, in gratitude to all the media, officially announce that the artist Sebastián Muñoz and his presenter on stage, DJ JJ Villegas, die on the night of Friday, April 26 in confusing events in the municipality of Corinto and that they are the subject of investigation,” the document states.

He also stated that the artist had received a call for a private performance and went to the scene of the events “everything remains in the hands of the authorities for the investigation,” they added.

According to INDEPAZ, the departments of Cauca, Antioquia, Nariño and Valle del Cauca had the highest numbers of forced displacement, assassination of leaders and ex-combatants, massacres, victims of anti-personnel mines and forced recruitment in 2023.
