On January 29, 2006, the Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez Frías, emphasized that, although Venezuela did not want war, it was still obliged to prepare for the defense of the Homeland against any action of imperialism and its lackeys.

“And we don't want war, but we are obliged to prepare for defense and resistance, because if the empire of the United States occurred to come here to invade Venezuela it would start here, rest assured, the war of 100 years, and here we would defeat the North American empire, in these lands, in these lands where Bolívar was born, in these lands of liberators,” he said from Fuerte Tiuna in Caracas.

He also recalled that he once warned: “Look, keep in mind, the Venezuelan oligarchy and the United States, that this Revolution of ours is peaceful, but it is not unarmed, they are two different things, this is an armed Revolution, it has weapons because to defend itself, not only the weapon of conscience that is enough and the weapon of a people”.

In addition, he noted that this was demonstrated by the People of Venezuela during the 2002 coup d'etat.
